Once again, we’re discussing the process we use while writing a story. This time we’re using the prompt: death in a small town. During this episode, we’ll discuss all the things we had to think about to get the story on the page.
Rebecca’s Notes:
- Write what you know
- How do you turn an idea into a story?
- Tried so many versions of this story. In the end, I just tried to write the truth. To write my pain in the experience of losing someone you love
Katelyn’s Notes:
- The writing stage this week was rough. There was not one part of this story that came to the page with any sort of ease. I saved the bulk of it until the last minute, and had to completely force myself to get to the ending, which I didn’t figure out until the day I had to send it in. There was no type of flow, and I realized I was writing a story based in escapism, but it wasn’t a story that I liked or cared about at all.
- When it was finished, I didn’t hate it as much as I expected to, but it didn’t leave me feeling anything at all. I was indifferent. I think it has been important for me to be okay with writing some stories that I just don’t connect with, because I’m such a perfectionist when it comes to what I create.
